Thee MGS Jazz band...

...recently attended the Southern Jam Youth Jazz Festival. The festival consisted of five school and bar gigs, a competition performance, as well as workshops and masterclasses with some of the top jazz performers in the country. The students did an exceptional job of representing Middleton Grange and was awarded a Silver Award for their competition performance, as well as the award for Most Promising Band! Joshua Judkins also received a special award for recognition of his musical integrity and enthusiasm.

The festival rounded out with the high-calibre Gala Concert, where the band wowed the audience with Zoot Suit Riot, Cassidy Townshend performed Centrepiece with the Southern Jam Singers, and Emma Bird represented MGS after being selected for 1st Tenor Sax in the All-Star Band!

Congratulations to the Jazz Band for giving it their all and rising to the challenge of the festival. Also, a huge thanks to Lana Law, our amazing Band Leader who continues to bring out the best in our students.

The Jazz Band are heading to Wellington in the first weekend of the holidays as national finalists in the 'Young Jazz Band-it' competition. Watch this space.
