Canoe Polo - Girls Scoring Another Goal

Canoe Polo National Successes

MGS —

Huge congratulations to our canoe polo teams on their outstanding performances in the NZ Secondary School Championships held in Feilding.

Our girls won the bronze medal in Senior Girls Division 1 to rank 3rd in New Zealand for the second year in a row. This is an outstanding achievement given that previously, no South Island school had won a Division 1 medal since 1992. The girls had a heart-breaking 3-4 semi-final loss to St Peters of Palmerston North but showed immense character to come back the next day and defeat Napier’s Taradale HS 7-1 in the bronze medal playoff. Emma Malcolm and Ava White were selected for the tournament team.

Our boys were also outstanding, finishing third in Senior Open Div 2. They only lost one game in the tournament and defeated Freyberg HS of Palmerston North 3-2, in a cliff-hanger to take the bronze medal. Middleton boys scored the winner with 40 seconds left on the clock. This result ranks the boys 10th in NZ and very likely to qualify for Div 1 next year.
