Chess Regionals
Red ties and blazers on...
...a sharp group of twenty Year 7-9 MGS chess representatives congregated together for the regional chess competition run by Chess Power at Avonhead School. The experienced players were talking strategy and game etiquette, Mrs Childs gave a pep-talk, Cohen led the group in prayer. All students were gearing up to bring their A-game. Prior to the event, the teams had committed lunch times to practicing and refining their chess moves and tracking physical games online to enhance their gameplay. Their hard work paid off…
Both the Year 7-8 team and the Year 9 team took out gold for their age groups. Cohen Monk, Jason Xie and Xuanxuan Zhang also received individual placings on the podium in their respective age categories. All students played with outstanding honour and excellence, making new friends, developing their chess skill - gleaning a badge or two along the way. The top four players of each team have qualified for the National Chess Power competition in October.
Solid mahi boys!
