Permission to drive
Some very important information your student should be aware off if they intend to buy a vehicle or get their licence. Here are some extractions from our policies just to give you an indication how complex the application for permission is.
Permission to purchase a vehicle
International fee-paying students on a Student Visa enrolled at Middleton Grange International College are not permitted to drive in New Zealand using an international driver’s licence.
Middleton Grange International College requires that an international student must acquire a New Zealand restricted or full drivers’ licence before granting permission for the student to purchase a vehicle in New Zealand.
Students driving a motor vehicle must have permission from their care provider and parent and the Assistant Director BEFORE purchasing a vehicle.
The conditions mentioned in this contract are binding and failure to meet these conditions will result in removal of permission for the international fee-paying student to own or drive a vehicle in New Zealand.
Permission will be granted to own a vehicle in New Zealand subject to the conditions set out in this contract. Before you will be given permission, you will need to show evidence of one of the following:
1. a) A NZ ‘learner’s’ driver’s license (no passengers are permitted except for full license owners who are instructing) + b) a booking for a complete driving course with a NZ instructor
Or
2. a) A NZ restricted driver’s license (no passengers are permitted unless under instruction by full license holder) + b) a booking for a complete driving course with a NZ instructor
Or
3. A full NZ driver’s license
In addition to one of the above conditions you will also need written permission from both your parents and your care provider (not your homestay parents).
You will also need permission from your homestay parents to park the car near to where you live.
