Academy Conference

MGS —

I, along with other Senior College students, were selected to attend the Academy Conferences talks. The conference usually takes place at St Andrews College, but due to Covid-19 restrictions we were unable to attend. Fortunately for us we were able to gather in the Leadership Room and listen to the talks together. We attended two talks from Julie Arliss who is a teacher of philosophy of religion and ethics at Kings College, one called ‘Here’s a cactus, tell me about it’ which is a common interview question at top universities such as Oxford and Cambridge, and one around the topic of social physics. Both of the talks that we listened to were very thought provoking and lead us to think deeper about questions that we usually wouldn’t have been posed with. It was very insightful to be with a group of deep thinkers who showed me different ways to look at the same question. The afternoon at the Academy Conference was a really enjoyable time. I found it very beneficial to me to hear other people’s opinions and ideas around topics and to be challenged by my peers and teachers.
