Annual Cricket Match - Staff vs Students
During Week 10 of Term 1...
...the annual staff vs student cricket match took place at the historic D-block oval cricket ground. Despite the pitch appearing green and greasy the student team headed up by Ben Hentschel still managed to send Mr Craig Utting's half trackers all over the park. The combination of the shiny rubber ball and the introduction of swing specialists Mr Steve Checketts, Mr Peter Collier and Mr Scott Aitken started to bring the staff back into the game. Debutant teacher Mrs Francis Malcom bowled an outstanding double wicket maiden to put the pressure back onto the students. A few key boundaries from Yone Stander and Alan Hill towards the end of the innings got the students to 67 off 8 overs.
The turn of play saw Mr Craig Utting and Mr Isaac Stanton take the crease who constructed a solid opening partnership during the opening two overs of the match. This consisted of Mr Utting hitting left arm paceman Joseph Surrey for three consecutive sixes during his over, and Mr Isaac Stanton personifying the phrase 'big swing, no ding' against the unplayable (his words) Ben Hentschel's seem bowling. Alongside Mr Shane McConnell who managed his second golden duck in a row, Mr Jesse Wilson had a debut to forget, not only dropping two catches but received a diamond duck to top it off. Despite the staff batting line up seeming to double in size towards as more staff joined the game after their lunchtime meetings, Mr Peter Collier ensured that the game had an interesting finish by running out four of his team mates in four-five balls. A late boundary from Ms Dale Goddard proved to be not enough, with the staff managing 62 after their 8 overs. Overall it was a great match, with everyone involved having a good day out in the sun. Congratulations to the students on your win this year!
