...the Department of Computer Science and Software Engineering at the University hosted the annual Canterbury Schools programming competition on Saturday, June 22nd. Drawing 40 teams comprising over 100 secondary school students, this year’s competition was a showcase of skill and determination among young programmers.

Representing Middleton, three teams participated, each with their own unique giftings: James Mulholland paired with Christopher Bower, Joshua Tang teamed with Johnny Ye (Year 12), and Thomas Wilson partnered with Andrew Denne (Year 13).

The competition involves the teams collaborating to tackle a series of challenging computing problems. Ultimately, Burnside High School emerged victorious, securing both first and second places, with Cashmere High School claiming third. Although Middleton's teams did not place this year, they demonstrated commendable performance and resilience throughout the competition.

Reflecting on the event, Middleton celebrates the wealth of programming talent among its students and their eagerness to compete at the highest level within the region.
