There have been lots of pupils competing in various sporting events recently. See below to read more about them.

National Cross Country

The National Cross Country took place recently in Taupo, with four runners (Sofia Kennedy, Luke Mitchell, Oliver Jones, Sam Jones)

Sofia –  a spirited effort from her after a week of sickness saw her place 8th, improving from her 12th position a year ago. Her result sees her re-selected for the NZ team to compete at the Australian Championships in August

Sam Jones – 3rd with Canterbury team in regional team relay Y9 Boys

Basketball

Ben Carlile-Smith was a member of the Canterbury U19 Men’s team who won the recent national championships over Queens Birthday weekend in Auckland. Sofia Kennedy was also involved in the National U19 Basketball Champs, along with ex-pupils Lauryn Hippolite and Aimee Book where they ended in third place.

Taekwondo

Jaymin Cho recently competed at the TUNZ South Island Champs in Dunedin. His club, Hyeon Mu Taekwondo, was able to make a total haul of 18 gold, 6 silver and 2 bronze with Jaymin receiving 3 gold in Poomsae (Patterns), 1 in Kyorugi (Sparring) and a Trophy for the Best Poomsae at the tournament.

Korfball

Internationally, Ellie Jung and Helena Tulia are currently in Eindhoven (Netherlands) playing in the U17 Korfball World Cup. The tournament was played over the weekend, and you can see results here - https://www.u17kwc.com/.

Netball

Our Senior A netball team have been in fine form also, winning five of their opening seven matches to start the season. With a number of injuries affecting the team all season long, this has been a successful start to the year.

Hockey

Our Girls Hockey 1st XI are unbeaten in 2018, putting them on top of the table, while the Boys 1st XI are enjoying being back in the competition for the first time in a while and are having plenty of fun, with the occasional win and plenty of goals to celebrate.

Wednesday/Friday Sports

The weather has been causing havoc with Wednesday sport, with football cancelled four of the five weeks, and netball three of the five. Our netball teams have had the chance to play Saturday matches down at Hagley, and after a five round grading series are now into the competition proper.

Badminton and Basketball have the luxury of being indoors, with the weather playing no disruption to their season. Our 12 badminton teams are definitely enjoying the participation rather than winning aspect so far, while our six basketball teams are enjoying their Friday evenings at gym’s across the city.
