Dear Parents, Caregivers and Whanau,
One of the many amazing opportunities we have as a Christian school [and as Christians] in New Zealand is to reflect on the privilege of being able to openly practice our faith in a country where we do not face the same level of persecution as in some other parts of the world. In places like North Korea, Afghanistan, India and China, Christians are persecuted and discriminated against for following Jesus. One in seven Christians worldwide are persecuted for their faith. They are denied access to jobs and education and excluded from aid and community resources. Many persecuted Christians are attacked and abused. Their churches are demolished, and their businesses destroyed. Having an awareness of what others are facing is a reminder of the importance of cherishing our religious freedom and sharing the love of Jesus with our friends, family and neighbours.
Our school's mission aligns with the principles of organizations like Open Doors, which work tirelessly to support persecuted Christians globally. Their motto is to ‘help people – no matter the cost’. What a compelling vision. As a school we raised over $1100 for Open Doors at our Mufti Day recently. This funding goes directly towards supporting those who are experiencing direct persecution for their faith. Let’s continue to use our freedom and resources to make a positive impact, not just within our school community but also by supporting those who face adversity for their faith in less fortunate regions of the world. It's a privilege and responsibility we should not take lightly, and by doing so, we can truly embody the Christian values we hold dear. Lets pray for strength and for provision for those who are serving Jesus in the most challenging of circumstances. As we are reminded in scripture (Ephesians 3:16-19) Suffering believers need strength to endure the pain, and pressure of persecution. (Philippians 4:19) Faced with poverty, loneliness and isolation, suffering believers need our prayers for God to provide.
Have a wonderful term break.
