Transdisciplinary Themes

Years 2-6 cover six transdisciplinary themes each year, and Years 0 and 1 cover four. These themes are planned in our Units of Inquiry, and through these units, the New Zealand Curriculum and all of the learning areas are taught. The transdisciplinary themes are big concepts that enable students to delve deeply and broadly into their learning. The six themes are:Who we are, Where we are in time and place, How we express ourselves, How the world works, How we organise ourselves, and Sharing the Planet.

Approaches to Learning
In order to be prepared for lifelong learning and to conduct purposeful inquiry in a range of different contexts, students need to master a whole range of skills which are relevant to all subject areas as well as life outside school. The PYP Approaches to Learning are explcitly taught as part of the Units of Inquiry, and are implicit in the daily running of the classrooms and the students' daily lives. The Approaches to Learning are: Social Skills, Research Skills, Thinking Skills, Communication Skills and Self-Management Skills.
