Sea Week and the 21 Day Challenge!
Sea Week starts tomorrow, Saturday 1st March, across New Zealand. It's a great time to bring our attention to the ocean, all that it has to offer, as well as being kaitiaki (guardians) for its future survival.
There are several family friendly events in and around Auckland over the week. I know I'd want to go snorkeling at Goat Island, help on a beach clean-up or upcycle an old t-shirt into a bag or dog toy. You can check out all the events here.
Milford School Whānau Groups are having a challenge to see which Whānau Group can collect the most rubbish over a 21-day period. We'll be competing against other schools across the country too as part of the Young Ocean Explorers 21-Day Challenge. The 21-day challenge includes weekends, so we encourage you to support your child in picking up at least 1 piece of rubbish each day for the next 3 weeks. Children need to record the number of pieces of rubbish they collect each day so it can be added to a class tally chart. It would be great if you could send us photos of your child collecting rubbish so we can share these on the Young Ocean Explorer's challenge web-page.
We'll have a few other exciting sea-related events happening over the week (Week 5) including stories being read aloud and a Sea Creature Drawing Competition. You can read more about the drawing competition in this newsletter.
