Principal's Message

Sue Cattell —

Kia ora whānau. The Approaches to Learning (Key Competencies) are a crucial component in the development of lifelong learners. At our school we have a strong focus on these, and during the Year 6 Exhibition this week, they certainly shone through.

The Approaches to Learning skills are Communication, Research, Self-management, Social and Thinking. These were very evident both in the inquiry the students undertook and in the presentation and sharing of these with parents, teachers, and peers. Well done Year 6, you are knowledgeable learners who know how to take action that is meaningful, authentic, and responsive. Thank you also to the Year 6 teachers, Scott Polkinghorne, Jessica Han, and Lisa Lord, who scaffolded the students in this process and gave them the agency to do this themselves.

This afternoon our amazing Year 1 students will lead the whole-school assembly in our school hall, starting at 2.15 pm. All parents are warmly invited to attend. With over 130 children in Year 0 and Year 1, we know there will be lots of you attending so it may be standing-room only!

A reminder that next Friday is another non-uniform day, raising money for our new playground. Please send your gold coins to school with your child that day. This weekend we expect the existing playground to be demolished (weather permitting) - exciting times!! As part of this last push for the playground funds, there are raffle hampers on sale from today. A notice went home through Hero yesterday, please check this out for more details. I know I certainly will be buying tickets!

Have a fabulous weekend everyone.
