Year 6 2022 Exhibition

Lisa Lord —

For the Exhibition, the students have been involved in the process of choosing the central idea, writing their lines of inquiry, forming groups, attending mentor meetings, conducting research, putting together their presentation while also thinking about the action they could take. It was just amazing to see the students engage in discussions, negotiations, and taking different roles to support their group.

We all know that working with others and listening to different perspectives can be challenging at times. Despite the challenges, our Year 6 students continually demonstrated the learner profile attributes and skills needed to work collaboratively with others.

From this inquiry and action, some changes will occur, ever so slight, or big. Each student should be proud of what they were a part of, and how they contributed to raising awareness and change.

This was a five week period of researching, designing, reworking, rethinking and risk taking. Learning took place online, through group discussions and after much trial and error. Many thanks to our wonderful mentor teachers who often stepped in to guide and advise and to parents for their support and encouragement.

This is some of the wisdom our students would like to pass on!

I have learnt that small things can make a big change like bees, they help pollinate the flowers so we can have food.
Esther
I learned Greenhouse gases, such as carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide, and certain synthetic chemicals, trap some of the Earth's outgoing energy, thus retaining heat in the atmosphere
Amelia
I learnt that deforestation is very serious and if we don't stop it it will be a primary driver of climate change.
Francis
The most difficult part of the Exhibition process was making team decisions, to overcome them we voted on the decision we liked best.
Justin
I didn't know that pink tax was even a thing and when I saw a $20 blue helmet and a $25 pink helmet I was very surprised that the pink and purple one was more.

I would tell them to work with people you don't usually work with and to jump into it head first! And that science boards are easy to use.
Arden
For me the most interesting thing was learning new things, and seeing what everyone else had come up with.
Mia
Choose who you work with wisely and listen to each other's ideas.
