Year 5 Garden to Table Programme 🍏🥦🌽🍅🍽

Year 5 —

Over the past two weeks Year 5 have been celebrating Matariki in our GTT kitchen & garden sessions.

During our garden session we have been learning about how Maori use the Maramataka (Lunar Calendar) to sow and harvest crops. We’ve planted garlic and kumara on or near the shortest day to harvest in summer.

Turning cream into butter was lots of fun even when arms started to ache. Did you know it takes one litre of cream to make 500 grams of butter?

Attached are this week’s recipes and at Te Reo fruit & vegetable word search!

We would like to say a very big THANK YOU to the following local businesses who have helped us already by donating many vital products for our kitchen and garden. It is their generous donations that make it possible for us to begin this exciting programme!
