Principal’s Message

Sue Cattell —

Kia ora koutou katoa. Having just read Dr Judith Locke’s book, The Bonsai Child, I am reminded how raising our children is complicated. She talks about how much praise is too much, what the best responses are when things don’t go right for them, and how we can unknowingly limit our child’s potential. It is a great read and I do recommend it.

Judith is our Kahui Ako’s keynote speaker at our teacher-only day tomorrow and is also giving a parent talk being held tonight at Westlake Boys High School for all parents. It starts at 6pm with tickets available through this link for $12 each.

As parents, our children often make us very proud. One of my proud moments happened this week when my son graduated from Auckland University after completing a PhD in Engineering. It is such a mammoth achievement and we are all very proud of him. Not sure I will get used to calling him Dr Nathan though!!

Next week is Support Staff Week, a week where we acknowledge the amazing work our support staff do in our school. From our office staff, to our learning assistants, librarian, IT staff, ESOL teachers and caretaker, we sincerely thank them for being an important part in creating the learning space that is Milford School. If you see any of them next week, it would be awesome if you could say a simple thank you.

A reminder that school is closed tomorrow for our teacher-only day, and again on Monday for the Queen’s Birthday public holiday. We look forward to seeing everyone back at school on Tuesday.
