Te reo Huarahi event - Te reo o te wiki Māori

Charlotte Barrance —

On Tuesday the 10th September, every staff member and student at Milford School walked out to Shakespeare Road to take part in Te Reo Huarahi - part of the celebrations for Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori 2019.

The Huarahi (street celebration) was about coming together to strengthen awareness and to showcase Te Reo Māori within our local community. The aim was to have as many local school students as possible, lining the footpaths around Lake Pupuke singing, chanting and performing Kapa Haka at midday.

With our local schools all being in such close proximity, it was a wonderful opportunity to come together for a shared purpose and to highlight the importance of Te Reo as a vibrant language of New Zealand. It was a great success and we all thoroughly enjoyed taking part. Kia kaha - Keep Te Reo Strong.
