Our Week of Words

Nirelle Armstrong —

In Week 11 of this term, we will be celebrating all things literacy during Our Week of Words. Throughout the week, there will be various activities the children will be able to take part in, including visits from guest authors. During the author visits, the children will be able to gain valuable insights into what it means to be an author, and how authors work to engage their readers. Guest authors include Vasanti Unka for Year 0-3 and James Russell for Years 4-6. These are well known authors who we think will really inspire the children.

During this week, we will also have a Book Swap and a Book Character Parade.

The book swap is a good opportunity to have a clean out at home of any unwanted books. Here, the children are asked to bring any unwanted books to their classroom where they will be stored, ready for the Book Swap on Tuesday the 22nd of June. For every book they bring, they will be able to choose a ‘new’ second hand book (up to 3 books). We ask that books brought to school are in a reasonable condition and suitable for primary school aged children. It is also okay for children to donate books, without exchanging them for a new book if they don’t find anything they want.

The Book Character Parade will be on Thursday the 25th of June. On this day, the children come to school dressed in their costumes (that is a character from a book) and stay in this for the day.

Finally congratulations to our winner of the Name the week competition - Ocsar Rhodes from Room 3. We loved your idea of calling it Our Week of Words. A big thank you to all the other children who put in their entries. It was very hard to choose.
