Literacy Week

Nirelle Armstrong —

In Week 9 of this term, we will be celebrating all things Literacy. Throughout the week, there will be various activities the children will be able to take part in, including visits from guest authors. During the author visits, the children will be able to gain valuable insights into what it means to be an author, and how authors work to engage their readers. We will also have a Book Swap and a Book Character Parade. The annual Scholastic Book Fair will also be on.

The book swap is a good opportunity to have a clean out of any unwanted books. On Monday and Tuesday of Week 9, children are asked to bring books they would like to swap or donate to their classroom to be stored, ready for the Book Swap. Books brought to school must be in a reasonable condition and be suitable for primary school aged children. For every book they bring, they will select a 'new' second hand book up to the maximum of two books. Children can donate books without exchanging them for a new book, if they don’t find anything they want or just wish to donate.

The Book Character Parade will be on Friday the 31st of March. On this day, the children come to school dressed in their costumes (that is a character from a book) and stay in this for the day.The Scholastic Book Fair will be open from Friday the 24th of March through till Wednesday the 29th of March. During this time, children will visit the fair in their class and then books will be available to purchase before and after school each day.

We can't wait for a fun week of all things literacy!
