Matariki Day by Year 3

Ellen von Collas —

To celebrate Matariki, the Year 3 children enjoyed a rotation of activities throughout the day on Tuesday. In Room 21, with Miss Armstrong, we created beautiful silhouettes of the matariki night sky, being careful to show all 9 stars of Matariki, not just 7 as we've previously thought. In Room 20, with Miss Patching, we expressed our creativity, making stunning celebration kites using all kinds of materials. We even got to test them out. Some were a little heavier than others, weighed down by our fabulous collage materials. In Room 19, with Mrs von Collas, we learned how to make a pinch pot, using clay. These will dry over the holidays and get fired in a kiln after the holidays. We can't wait to get them back so we can paint them and show them to our families.

Matariki celebrations started on 20 June and will continue to 15th July. If you'd like to find out more about Matariki, click on the link. Happy Maori New Year and Happy Holidays!
