PE POOL SESSIONS WITH MRS LAVULO

Louise Lavulo —

Ngā mihi nui to the whānau who have offered their time this term to assist with the PE pool sessions. Throughout the term, there will be a focus on water safety, locomotor, non-locomotor, gross motor skills, team building, and water confidence.

We have 22 classes come through the pool gates into Mrs Lavulo's 'pool farm' each week with a variety of abilities and confidence levels, while being risk-takers and thinkers as they proceed. We have also had many helpers being risk-takers too with taking on an active role, either in/beside the water to support the ākonga or leading activities for a group, which has been wonderful to see.

Please check in with your classroom teacher regarding your child's PE pool day so they can be ready with their gear and if you wish to assist with swimming, you will need to discuss this with the classroom teacher regarding the timing of the lesson, supporting the children to come from their class/Music/STEM lesson to the pool area, and the teacher can add your details to a shared doc that allows me be sure of who is attending each week, and that there are a sufficient number of helpers for the specific class needs.

We LOVE offers of assistance, though due to the short time with each class and for safety, please note that a good command of English is essential to be able to lead a group based on the activity board and while assisting, there needs to be an active role of caring for all of the students, not just your own child; we appreciate your support with this.

Many of our smallest Milford tamariki have had a bit of trouble with dressing themselves after coming out of the pool this week; taking some time before their next lesson to encourage them to dry and dress themselves after a bath or shower would be very beneficial because the timing of the timetabled classes is very tight and there are not enough people to assist 1:1 with getting them dressed.

All year levels would benefit from coming to PE this term with goggles if possible to enable them to feel more comfortable submerging their faces/bodies into the water and for some of the upcoming activities. I look forward to seeing your child's giggles, enthusiasm, and curious minds throughout the term.
