WORDS AROUND THE WORLD WEEK

Nirelle Armstrong —

Next week is Words Around The World week celebrating all things literacy, with a special connection to how words and stories bring people from around the world together.

Starting from Monday, we have lots of exciting things happening in classes and around the school. Our visiting authors include Melinda Szymanik for Years 1-3, Anne Kayes for Years 3-6, and Paul Mason for Years 5-6. Along with our authors, we have daily guest readers and activities at lunchtimes, quizzes, a book swap and a parade. Key days to remember are Tuesday when we have our book swap and Thursday when we have our parade.

The book swap offers children the opportunity to swap books they've finished with others they'd like to read. Children look through books at home, choosing ones they no longer want. They store these in their class until Tuesday morning, dropping them to the hall between 8.30am and 9am. Children will then return to the hall with their teacher to select a 'new' book later in the day. They will be able to take one book for every book they bring, up to a max of 3. Any leftover books will be given to a school in our local area. Children may just want to drop books off, rather than swap - no problems.

Our Words Around The World parade is happening on Thursday. On this day, children come to school dressed as either their favourite book character OR in a traditional cultural costume. This will begin on the courts at 9.10am, with parents welcome to stay and watch. Children stay in their costumes for the day.

We are looking forward to the week ahead!
