Words Around The World Week

Nirelle Armstrong —

This week, our tamariki have enjoyed participating in Words Around The World week, which celebrates all things literacy, as well as the power that stories have in bringing people together.

Author visits included Paul Mason and Anne Kayes, with many children taking up the opportunity to purchase either Tui Street Tales or Tui Street Heroes from Anne this morning. Melinda Szymanik, who was due to visit, has been rescheduled due to Covid. Listening to the authors speak is always valuable for children as they get to see that we are all writers and all capable of being an author if we want.

It was great to see the vast array of book characters and cultural costumes at our parade yesterday. Many classes have posted photos on Hero, however, below are a few more. Children also got to listen to stories being read by a teacher in a different year group yesterday and participated in a literacy quiz today. What a great week it has been!
