Learning in Room 11

Grant Arendse —

The students in Room 11 have really enjoyed learning about their emotions and expressing themselves during our "How we express ourselves" unit of inquiry.

One of the ways we expressed ourselves was by creating artwork inspired by music. The students listened to three different songs and were encouraged to think about the emotions they felt while listening, and to put those emotions into their artwork. We discussed how whatever emotions we felt were okay as we're all different and have different points of views. The students also enjoyed coming up with a title to accompany their artwork.

In maths, the students expressed themselves by creating symmetrical body sculptures, first in small groups and then as an entire class. At first it was challenging to organise so many people, but they quickly learned that they couldn't all talk at the same time. They showed great teamwork, problem solving and communication skills to create their class symmetry body sculpture. Have a look below!
