Principal's Message

Sue Cattell —

Kia ora whānau. It has been lovely having the Life Education caravan back at school. The children really learn a lot from the sessions, whether it is in the caravan with Jenni and Harold (the giraffe), or with the follow up activities the teachers do.

Life Education is another activity that has a cost per child, so please do ensure you have paid the annual Activity Contribution. This, and the School Donation, are easy to pay on Kindo. Receipts are issued as the school donation is tax-deductible. Most people are able to claim a tax credit of 33.3% for donations in New Zealand. We do need these to be paid as we rely on them to cover many of the learning opportunities we have. The Ministry’s operational grant does not cover nearly enough, so the donation is really important. Usually, we have additional fundraising through our Friends of Milford School (FOMS), however that was limited last year due to covid-19 and who knows what will happen this year?

Speaking of covid-19, earlier in the week, I sent out an email with the number of positive cases in each class. At that stage, we had 31 cases across the school, and we now have 43, although some of the earlier cases are now recovered and back at school. The new cases are in classes across the school, with most classes now having at least one case. Learning at school continues as usual, and we do encourage you to send your children if they are well.

I hope you enjoy reading through this newsletter which shows some of the amazing learning that is happening across the school. School really is a happy place to be.

Have a lovely weekend everyone.

Noho ora mai (stay well)

Sue
