Year 4 - Long Bay Trip

Charlotte Barrance —

On Wednesday 19th May, all the Year 4 students travelled to Long Bay Regional Park for our Outdoor Challenge Day. We were all very excited to go on this trip due to it being postponed in Term 1 due to lockdown. The day started very wet and windy however once we arrived things quickly improved. It was an amazing day! The visit was a day filled with outdoor challenges where Year 4 children all had a fantastic opportunity to learn about an experience “real safe kiwi style outdoor experiences”.

Across the day, the students learned to work together in groups to complete a range of different practical, hands-on, cooperative activities which were designed to promote safe practices in the outdoors. Activities we took part in included; cooking sausages on a gas burner, reading maps, erecting a tent, exploring the local bush habitat, tramping, preparing a day pack ready for a hike as well as looking at beach objects in the marine reserve through a magnifying glass.

All the students came away exhausted, happy campers filled with stories about their favourite activities and prepared for their future experiences in the great outdoors.
