Seeds in Space - Astrobiology Network NZ

Nicole Brown —

In 2021, astronauts aboard the International Space Station are undertaking a plant-growth experiment with basil seeds. Thanks to the Seeds in Space programme, the Japanese Space Agency (JAXA) has sent our school some seeds from the exact same batch as those being flown into space to give us a chance to perform our own experiments here on Earth!!

Over the next few months, we will be growing our 'space seeds’, measuring them and comparing the differences to the growth of those in space!
In the photo below you can see the phytosanitary certificate that accompanied our seeds through the NZ border which has been signed by Issei Kobayashi - an officer from JAXA!

We will keep you updated with our space seed progress.
