International Youth Peace Week 2019

Charlotte Barrance and the Milford Mediators —

International Youth Peace Week runs from August 5th - 9th 2019. The 2019 theme is Peace & Technology. With this theme, the drive is to encourage everyone to think about how technology can have a positive influence on a peaceful world – and to also spread awareness about the possible challenges, such as cyber bullying.

At Milford School the mediators have lined up several exciting activities to celebrate Peace Week. On Tuesday an expert from the New Zealand Peace Foundation is coming to do a workshop with our Cool School’s Mediators at lunchtime. She will also be running a session with the Year 4 classes around the same theme.

On Wednesday we will be holding PEACE CHALKS on the courts at lunchtime. This is a fun opportunity for all students to come together and create pictures and messages of peace on the courts.

On Friday we will be having a whole school PEACE MUFTI DAY. All children are encouraged to wear mufti to support Technology for Peace and bring a gold coin donation. All proceeds will go to the Kidsline Charitable Trust - a free service which provides 24/7 counselling to children up to 18 years of age. As many children affected by cyberbullying use this service, the mediators thought it was an awesome charity to support for Peace Week.

To finish the week off on Friday, our Peace Week Poster Competition “Quotes for Peace”, which is open to all students, will close at 3pm. Winners of this competition will be announced the following week and will receive a $20 Whitcoull’s voucher at the Year 1 Assembly in week 4.

Waiho i te toipoto, kaua i te toiroa , Let us keep close together, not far apart.
