Literacy Week

Nirelle Armstrong —

We are getting excited for our upcoming Literacy Week in Week 9 of this term.

Our visiting authors include Rebecca Larson and Graci Kim. Children will enjoy listening to these writers as they will be able to gain valuable insights into what it means to be an author, and how authors work to engage their readers.

During this week we also have our annual book swap, which is always a hit with the children. In Week 9, children are asked to bring books they would like to swap or donate to their classroom to be stored, ready for the Book Swap. Books brought to school must be in a reasonable condition and be suitable for primary school aged children. For every book they bring, they will select a 'new' second hand book up to the maximum of two books. Children can donate books without exchanging them for a new book, if they don’t find anything they want or just wish to donate.

This weekend is also a great time to get costumes ready for Book Character Parade, which will be on Friday the 31st of March. On this day, the children come to school dressed in their costumes (that is a character from a book) and stay in this for the day. They will then be ready for the Family Fun afternoon happening after school.

The Scholastic Book Fair will be open from Friday the 24th of March through till Wednesday the 29th of March. During this time, children will visit the fair in their class and then books will be available to purchase before and after school each day. With parent teacher meetings on Tuesday the 28th of March, the book fair will be open late that evening.
