Principal's Message

Sue Cattell —

Kia ora whānau. What an exciting week at school! Having Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori and Words Around the World in the same week has made the week literally full of words! Words in many languages and in many forms. These past few days I have been in Ōtautahi (Christchurch) at the NZ Principals’ Conference so unfortunately have missed many of the great activities this week. I have heard about many of them though, and hope that your children have come home each day and shared their new words and learning with you.

This week has also been one of reflection for many of us, as we think about the life of service lived by Her Majesty the Queen. The dictionary defines service as “the action of helping or doing work for someone”. This notion of being of service to others and helping others is central to the PYP and one we strive to model for our students. We are not perfect by any means, but as kaiako (teachers) we do try to do this every day.

Please do remember that the country will have a public holiday on Monday 26 September, so schools will be closed across the motu.

Friday, next week, is an important day for our school as we have our Enviroschools Green-Gold review. We are very proud to be an active Enviroschool and are constantly looking for ways to improve our actions. We only have one planet and need to work together to look after it as best we can. Our students are great role-models of this and we encourage them to be vocal and active.

Have a lovely weekend everyone.

Ngā manaakitanga

Sue
