Principal's Message - Kua haehae ngā hihi o Matariki - The rays of Matariki are spread.
Thank you to everyone who came along to our Matariki Celebrations. The early morning gathering was indeed a memorable experience, filled with warmth, cultural richness, and a strong sense of community.
Matariki, the Māori New Year, holds a special place in our culture. During this time, whānau (family) and communities come together to reflect on the year's passing, celebrate the present moment, and plan for the future.
The Matariki festivities, a testament to our strong community spirit, allow us to pause and remember the year that has gone by. It is a time to honour the memories of our loved ones who are no longer with us through shared stories and heartfelt remembrance. It is an occasion for feasting and celebration and engaging in activities that strengthen the bonds within our community. These moments of togetherness, like our Matariki morning, foster a sense of belonging and create lasting memories.
As we look towards the future, Matariki instils hope and a sense of anticipation for what lies ahead. It symbolises the beginning of a new season and encourages us to set intentions and plan for the coming year. At Milford, we will put the intention for connection, prosperity, and a safe, nurturing school where tamariki have a strong sense of belonging.
We hosted more than 300 Milford students, whānau and kaiako this year at our Matariki event. A big thank you to Grace Campbell (Room 5 Kaiako), who coordinated the event, our talented students and the many helpers who made the morning a success. Your support and participation have made this event a reflection of our vibrant and inclusive community.
We look forward to many more Matariki celebrations in the years to come; here, we can continue to embrace the traditions, values, and cultural significance of Matariki.

Milford and Takapuna Normal Intermediate Combined Concert
On Thursday, Milford and Takapuna Normal Intermediate joined forces for a truly unforgettable evening of music! Our combined concert showcased the incredible talent of our young musicians.
The stage was filled with energy as students from both schools shared their diverse musical talents. From the vibrant Choir of Milford School to the resonating beats of the Takapuna Normal Intermediate Rock Band, the audience was captivated.
This event served as more than just a concert; it symbolised the strong musical pathway between our schools. The experience of working together not only enriched the musical talents of our students but also fostered a sense of camaraderie and connection. Witnessing the joy of collaboration between students of different ages was genuinely inspiring.
This concert is a testament to the commitment of Eugenie Middleton, our music teacher, and Dan Sperber, TNIS Music Teacher, who nurtured a passion for music within our students. Thanks to their hard work, the event was a resounding success.
We look forward to continuing to build upon this collaboration and creating more opportunities for our students to learn, grow, and share their musical talents.
As always, if you have any feedback or questions, please don't hesitate to get in touch.
