News from the Garden Shed 🍃

Ellen von Collas —

This term in Gardening Club we planted winter vegetables donated by Palmers (cauliflower, broccoli, winter lettuce, spring onions, beetroot, and rocket). We also planted potatoes and strawberries.

We had a visiting entomologist from Auckland University who talked about our leaf cutter bees, after which we planted wildflowers for the bees. One day we enjoyed beans and carrots dipped in hummus. Last week we harvested the rest of our carrots before planting a new crop of carrots which should be ready before Christmas. The carrots were sweet, crisp and delicious.

Winners of this term's Gardening Club Trophy are Fateh Benepal and Kingsley Dai. They are committed and responsible members who share their knowledge and passion for gardening with the other members.

Thanks to all the parents for supporting our stall outside the hall on Assembly Fridays. We always have worm 'wee' for sale and there are often freshly picked vegetables for your weekend dinner.

Gardening Club would welcome parent helpers for both Gardening Club (Thursday lunchtimes, from 12.40 - 1.30pm) and helping to dig Bokashi into our compost bins - at a time to suit you. Please contact Mrs Sommers if you are able to help with either of these.
