Splashing Good Fun!

Ellen von Collas —

This week the Year 3 students enjoyed a splashing great time at the Mairangi Bay Surf Life Saving Club. The purpose of the day was to learn some key tips to stay safe around water. The facilitators brought their wealth of life-saving experience and knowledge to share with the children.

They encouraged us to share these tips with everyone. Some key learnings were:

  • Swim between the flags.
  • Young children should be within arm's reach of their adult.
  • Never swim alone!
  • Listen to the advice from lifeguards - they're there to help you.
  • Be SUN SMART: Slip into some clothes, Slop on sunscreen, Slap on a hat, Wrap on some sunglasses and Slide under some shade.
  • If you see someone in trouble, call 111 and ask for the POLICE.
  • If you're caught in a rip: Relax on your back, Raise your arm and Ride the rip.

We hope these tips keep you and your whānau safe while you enjoy a few more warm days this summer. Apart from the fantastic Life Saving tips, the children also played many games, both on the sand and in the water. They also got to ride the waves on boogie boards.
