Year 2 Visit the Farm

Paula Snowball —

On Tuesday, the Year 2 team boarded the bus and headed to Ambury Park Farm in Māngere Bridge. It was a beautiful, hot day and we were greeted by thousands of sheep waiting to be shorn. The Year 2 tamariki had a great time learning about fabulous fibres. They got to see some sheep being shorn, twisted some wool into yarn and made a piece of fabric out of wool. A highlight was exploring the paddocks with the variety of farm animals in them, it was amazing to get up close to the friendly animals.

Thank you so much to our wonderful parent helpers who helped make this learning experience possible. Year 2 had an awesome day!!

I got hugged by a brown sheep with horns. Lots of people were watching me because the sheep was crazy and kept wanting to have me. It was funny.

I had so much fun patting all of the animals. They are all so unique in their own different ways. They are all so beautiful.
Frankie
I really liked making the wool into fabric. We had to fold it, put magic liquid on it and some water. We then rubbed it and then the colours got lighter and the fibres joined together and then we had some fabric.
Zoe
I loved patting the lambs and also sliding down the chute like a sheep.
Violette
I loved seeing all the animals. The sheep were fun because I liked feeding them.
Paige
I like making yarn and felt. It was a little bit hard. I liked seeing the chickens.
