Principal’s Message

Sue Cattell —

Kia ora koutou katoa. We have so many talented students in our school, and this week I want to acknowledge Ben (Zhanyi) Xiong who recently competed in the 2020 Waikato Open in Table Tennis. Ben was the Under 11 Boys Singles Runner-up, the Under 11 Boys Doubles Winner, and the Under 13 Boys Doubles Winner. His two doubles wins were with different partners, which shows what a strong player he is. Congratulations Ben!

We love to encourage student voice and action, and what a great display of this we have today. As mentioned in the email that came home on Wednesday, our peer mediators (Year 5 and 6 students) asked if we could have a rainbow mufti day today as part of peace week. One of these mediators, Linda Xi, wrote a compelling persuasive letter that spoke of why we need to be respectful and think about the perspectives of others, and how a rainbow day would raise awareness of this. Thank you Linda, and the mediators, for taking this action to raise awareness.

This week we have had the ASB Getwise team in at school, working with classes around financial literacy. The students have not only enjoyed these sessions, but have learned so much about being financially aware.

Next week is Maths Week, a week where we highlight how much fun maths can be, and how it is all around us. The students will be involved in many learning activities during the week, and further in this newsletter you can read about some activities you can do at home.

Our whole school assembly is being held next Friday and will be led by the Year 2 team. It starts at 2.15pm and all are invited.

Have a lovely weekend everyone.

Ngā manaakitanga
