Learning in Year 0/1

Beverley Smith —

To celebrate our Literacy "Words Around the World Week", the Year 0/1's had various teachers read their favourite book to them and then do a follow up activity. This was done during our Learning through play session on Monday. The students could choose which book they wanted to hear and which activity they wanted to do.

On Wednesday, the students then had another opportunity to celebrate Te wiki o te reo maori (Maori Language week) during our Learning through play session. The teachers and some of the student teachers offered a variety of hands-on practical activities that the students could choose from. Some of these included singing waiata, weaving, using the rakau sticks, and doing some maori art.

We are very pleased to say that we had a high level of engagement from many of the students, and hopefully they were able to come home and talk to you about their activities.
