Learner Profile Challenge!

Sara Baker —

I wonder if the Learner Profile attributes can help me when I’m an adult? Are the attributes going to be useful to me when I grow up? Let's talk to the experts in our families!

Are you a COMMUNICATOR? Do you express yourself confidently and creatively in one or more languages, and in different situations? Are you able to collaborate with others and listen to their ideas and perspectives? Can you think how being a communicator might be important when you are an adult? Challenge time! Talk to your adults at home and ask them to tell you a time they remember when being a communicator was really important for them. How did being a great communicator help them in that situation? In which ways did they communicate? You can write down, or present in another way, their story and you are welcome to share with Ms Baker at sara.baker@milford.school.nz It would be great to share some examples in upcoming newsletters!

Ms Baker's story: When I was 17, I spent a year at a school in Denmark but I wasn't able to speak Danish before I went there. Soon after arriving, I got lost in the town as I didn't know my way around. It was late, I didn't know where my family's car was and no one spoke English! What could I do? In those days there were no mobile phones! In the end, I had to be a COMMUNICATOR and use a tiny bit of Danish, some writing, and a lot of made-up sign language to get my message across to someone who could help me! It was really important for me to communicate so I could help myself.
