Principal's Message

Sue Cattell —

Kia ora whānau. School definitely has a colourful look today as our students have come in their non-uniform clothes. Thank you for supporting this and for sending along the gold coins which will go towards our new playground. We have two more non-uniform days this term as part of one last big push to reach the target. The photo above is the design of this new playground which has been a collaboration driven by the students. It is on track to be installed later this month - fingers crossed it is!

Last weekend I attended two events where our students excelled. The first was at The Great Kiwi Songbook held at St Matthews in the City. This was an amazing experience for our students as they sang with a live string quartet and professional performers, and I was very proud of them. The next day, we hosted the North Shore Marimba Festival in our school hall, and again our students shone. They really are very talented. A big thank you to all of you and your whānau who came to either of these events for your support, and to Eugenie Middleton for her passion in always promoting our school when there are amazing opportunities.

This week has seen the Year 5 overnight camp at MERC, and what a fabulous time they had. A lot of organisation goes into this and a huge thank you goes to the Year 5 teachers, Michelle Clark, Charlotte Sutton and Bev Boyd.

Next week the Year 6 students will share their Exhibition with their families and with the school. Exhibition is part of the IBPYP and is a unit of learning that the students drive. They lead the inquiry process into an area that has significance and one where they can take action. I have been so impressed by the enthusiasm and knowledge these students have. They certainly embody what it means to ne an inquirer.

Next Friday is our whole school assembly which will be led by the Year 1 team, starting at 2.15pm in the school hall. All parents are warmly invited and I know you will be amazed, as I always am, how confident these young children are with a microphone!

Have a good weekend everyone.
