Pink Shirt Day!

Sara Baker —

It was amazing to see so many students coming to school today dressed in pink to raise awareness for Bully Free Week! A huge thank you to all those who were able to be involved, including our fantastically pink staff. Students, you are all appreciated for who you are and what you contribute to our school community. Thank you for being so involved, and for respecting yourselves and others!

Bullying is repeated, unwanted, aggressive behaviour that involves a real or perceived power imbalance. Kids who bully use their power – such as physical strength, knowing something embarrassing, or popularity – to control or harm others. Talk to your child about things they say or do that might be hurtful to others - in games, in friendships, in learning groups etc.

Bullying can happen anywhere, at any time, and can be verbal, physical or emotional. It can happen in person or online, and it can be obvious or hidden.

  • Bullying is deliberate - harming another person intentionally.
  • Bullying involves a misuse of power in a relationship.
  • Bullying is not a one-off - the behaviour is repeated, or has the potential to be repeated, over time.

Teach your child to be an upstander, not a bystander, and talk to them about reflecting on their own behaviours. Reflection can be a time for change and for celebration.
