Principal's Message

Sue Cattell —

Kia ora whānau. This photo was taken recently at lunchtime and shows some of our students creating chalk artworks. What I love about it is how engrossed they were in what they were doing, that they didn’t even know a photo was being taken. Thank you to Bev Boyd for capturing this.

It has been great to see so many of our students being able to participate in events such as the Tough Guy/Girl Challenge and the Rippa Rugby tournament this week. Many of these events were unable to proceed last year, and there were big smiles on the students faces as they went off.

Our Year 5 students were also able to have their EOTC trip to the Chelsea Sugar Works, a great learning engagement for their How we Organise Ourselves unit that focuses on communities.

As you know, our student’s safety is hugely important to us and we have some concerns about traffic at our Gate 2 in Otakau Road. Some drivers are stopping on the yellow lines, driving into driveways and reversing while children are walking behind them on the footpaths, and some are even stopping in the middle of the road and calling for their children to run out and get in. These behaviours need to stop. Please think about the safety of all and the road rules. Our teachers who are on duty are there to keep an eye on the children, they are not there to police the traffic or to be abused.

A reminder that in a few weeks we have two teacher-only days, Monday 29 and Tuesday 30 August. School will be closed for instruction on those days so please make arrangements for your children.

Today is our Year 1 led assembly at 2.15pm. All Year 1 parents and whānau are warmly invited, and please do wear a mask in the hall.

Have a great weekend everyone.

E waka eke noa (we are all in this together)

Ngā mihi

Sue
