Splashing Time on EOTC

Ellen von Collas —

On Tuesday and Wednesday this week the Year 3 classes enjoyed some splashing good fun learning about sun and surf safety at the Mairangi Bay Surf Life Saving Club. Here are some of their comments:

  • I felt the sand smooshing between my toes. – Piper
  • We went boogie boarding and went out really deep. We had to paddle out to the parents. The water was so cold when I went under that I came out screaming. - Annika
  • It was fun sitting in the RB. We saw how the motor works. We got to touch all the equipment the lifeguards need when they go out to rescue someone who needs help in the sea. - Josh G
  • I liked the rescue tubes because I liked being trapped in the salty water and being rescued by people – Jordi
  • Parys, Kyle and Charlie helped us learn about taking care of ourselves at the beach. I was a lifeguard and I rescued other children in the sea with the rescue tube. - Stella
  • I loved bobbing up and down on the waves. – Kate
  • I learnt to spot a rip because that is where the water is flat. We played a great game called Stuck in the Rip, it was so much fun.- Lilian
  • It was so cold I felt like dry ice and almost had a brain freeze. “Brrr!” – Eden
  • The salty water crashed over the top of me and I was speeding towards the beach. – Patrick
