Milford Ski Team

Paula Snowball —

We are seeking experienced skiers to join the Milford School ski team. The Milford School ski team competes annually in late August / early September at the North Island Primary School (NIPS) Champs at Mt. Ruapehu (except for the last two years due to COVID).

This is a Slalom skiing event. Children often engage in their own training. If demand for it is high enough we can also look to get a coach up at Snowplanet for training during a few school day afternoons over T2 / T3 for training (parents would need to transport kids and their gear to and from Snowplanet for this (and remain there during training)). NIPS is run over 3 - 4 days during Term 3. Depending on attendees we look to book team accommodation at the mountain (location and details are TBC). A skiing parent needs to accompany their child for this trip and may also be required to be course assistants. Children don't need to have ski racing experience but do need to be competent blue run mountain skiers.

The focus is on having a fun and enjoyable competition and for the kids to meet other like minded adventurous children.

We will hold trials to select teams as required. In previous years we have had either one or two teams (with up to 5 skiers in each) made up of juniors (Year 2/3/4) and seniors (Year 5/6), with a mix of boys and girls. All costs and transport (including up to the mountain each day) are the responsibility of the parents.

If you have any questions or want to find out more about this awesome experience please email Daniel Meikle who is managing the team: meikle.daniel@gmail.com or see Paula Snowball in the Hive.
