STUDENT SUCCESSES!

Sara Baker —

Congratulations to Lachie, who has written an amazing legend as part of his Unit of Inquiry with the theme of Where We Are in Place and Time. The central idea of this unit was to inquire into the history and geography of a place, connecting the past to the present. Lachie wrote an amazing legend which was connected to our local environment, and especially Lake Pupuke. His story was about a mean Taniwha, with huge scales and spikes as sharp as knives! Luckily, Lachie had a special chemical that saved the day and resulted in many exciting adventures for him and his friend the Taniwha! Lachie, your writing was amazing, and the descriptions really built a picture in my mind of you and your Taniwha kneeboarding across Lake Pupuke! You are a fantastic Inquirer, Risk-Taker and Communicator!

Congratulations to our Year 1 student Abdus, with his creation from Play Based Learning. He made this biplane for people to fly to a different country so they could explore a new place. This is in connection with the Year 0 and 1 Unit of Inquiry Where We Are in Place and Time, with the central idea of "People move throughout the world for different reasons and at different times."

Ms Brereton had put up some photos of different modes of transport at the Creation Station and Abdus has taken inspiration from one of these. He then did some research about biplanes and shared it during reflection time. Well done Abdus, you have really shown the Learner Profile Attribute of being a Thinker, and have made wonderful connections to your learning and your play! Transferring knowledge and understanding to new contexts shows a deeper understanding of concepts, and Abdus is well on his way to becoming a connected learner!
