Principal's Message

Sue Cattell —

Kia ora whānau. Once again, we are supporting Give a Kid a Blanket and are asking for donations of blankets and warm clothing. To help support this, we are having a PJ day next Friday and ask children to wear their pyjamas to school and bring a gold coin which will be given directly to this charity.

As we have mentioned previously, we have changed the way we report on student learning. With the introduction of our new Student Management System (SMS), Hero, we have moved to real-time reporting. This is new for us, and we have introduced it slowly. For these two terms, the teachers have been posting each child’s learning on their digital portfolio but as yet we haven’t made these accessible for parents to view. Towards the end of this term, we will do this so you can see examples of their learning, along with teacher feedback. An Overall Teacher Judgement (OTJ) for the key learning areas will also be visible. To explain this in more detail, we are holding a Parent Information Evening in our school staffroom on Tuesday 28 June at 7pm. We warmly invite you all to attend. At this meeting, we will also have a guest speaker who will share the community section of our Linewize programme. Linewize is a company that help schools, students and families develop better digital habits and helps keep children safe online.

The Ministry have made schools aware of their concern that a norovirus (stomach bug) may impact student learning in the coming weeks. We ask that if your child complains of a stomach ache that you keep them at home that day, and keep them at home for 48 hours after their last vomit.

I also received an email from the Ministry offering free internet connectivity (until 15 January 2023) for any households in our community who are not connected. Please let me know if this is you and if you would like to be connected.

A reminder too, that if you shop at Bakers Delight in Milford and mention our school when you purchase something, they will donate 5% of the total you pay back to our school. An easy fundraiser for us ... and you!

As at today, we have only 6 students across the school isolating with covid-19, from a roll of 495.

Keep safe and well everyone!

Kia pai tō ra whakatā, have a great weekend!

Sue
