2023 Statement of Delivery of Health Curriculum

Lucy Naylor —

Every two years, the Board of Trustees consults with the school community and adopts a statement on delivering the health curriculum.

The survey asked parents and caregivers to state the importance they placed on a series of statements taken from the content of the New Zealand Health Curriculum. There were 98 respondents to the survey.

The data shows that our community feel it is very important for children to;

  1. To be able to keep themselves safe at home, school and the community (89%)
  2. To be able to identify peer pressure and how to respond to it (84%)
  3. To understand and use playground rules (84%)
  4. To learn the skills to communicate effectively and solve problems (83%)
  5. To be able to identify peer pressure and how to respond to it (81%)
  6. To have strategies to address bullying (80%)
  7. To be able to identify feelings and express them appropriately (79%)
  8. To show respect for themselves, others and the environment (79%)
  9. To understand that resilience is the ability to bounce back when things do not go right (79%)
  10. To recognise and accept that people are different (76%)

We will continue to ensure that the health curriculum delivered at Milford School meets the needs of our students and their families. As an outcome of the consultation, teaching teams will analyse the results and use them to inform their planning.
