Principal’s Message

Sue Cattell —

Tēnā koutou katoa

As our national rugby team starts their World Cup games, we are holding a black out day today. It is awesome to see so many children (and staff) dressed head to toe in black and sending our very best wishes to the All Blacks team. Thank you all for the gold coins which will go towards extra lunchtime sports equipment for The Shed!

Speaking of rugby, tomorrow night there is a Mitre 10 rugby game at North Harbour Stadium between North Harbour and Otago, and one of our teams has been selected to be part of the curtain-raiser. Congratulations to our Year 5 and 6 Girls Rippa team. They play a game against Target Road School at 5.45pm and we wish them well. What an exciting opportunity for them!

As many of you are aware, we are part of a Community of Learning (Kahui Ako) along with other local primary schools, TNIS and Wairau Intermediate, the Westlake High Schools and some early childhood centres. We have achievement challenges common to all of us which are around well-being, community engagement and the key competencies (approaches to learning). We have a website Pupuke Kāhui Ako that you can access if you want further information, or just to see the exciting things we are doing together. In our school, the lead people are myself, Charlotte Barrance, Sophie Magaraggia, Michelle Clark, Nirelle Armstrong and Paula Snowball, and we are all happy to chat with you if you have any questions.

A reminder that in Term 4, Friday 8 November, we have our student-led conferences. The booking timetable for these will open soon, so you can book in your 30 minutes timeslot for your child to share their leaning with you in the classroom. The teachers are there, but are not actively involved in the sharing. This is an exciting and empowering time for your children. Please note that this is not a regular school day, and children come, with their parents, for their sharing time only.

Term 3 is rapidly drawing to a close, with school closing at 3pm next Friday, 27 September, for the holidays. It has been a fantastic term of learning and I know Term 4 will be equally so.

Have a lovely weekend everyone.
