Principal's Report

Sue Cattell —

Kia ora whānau. What a start to the week! Just as we were saying goodbye to the Year 6’s as they headed to camp, the deluge of rain descended. Once they left we turned our attention to cleaning up the flooding in the junior block. Our lovely shade sails outside the junior block were torn as the weight of the water pooled and bent the uprights. It was a busy day trying to dry everything, and even now some of the carpet is still damp, but everyone pitched in to help. Insurance will now replace the carpets and the shade sails.

As I mentioned, our Year 6 students, teachers and many parents, have gone to Carey Park for the week-long camp. I spent the day there on Wednesday, and the students are having so much fun. They are pushing themselves to try new activities, learning to work with people they normally wouldn’t, seeing the value in teamwork, and not least, trying new food! It is a wonderful experience and I sincerely thank the Year 6 team, Mr Scott Polkinghorne, Miss Jessica Han and Mrs Lisa Lord for all the organisation and preparation and giving up their family time to be there. A huge thank you, also, to the many parent volunteers, we couldn’t run it without you.

As I mentioned in previous newsletters, the teacher-only days that were to happen next week have been postponed until Term 3. School will be open as usual next week.

In the last week of term we have the parent/teacher/student meetings starting at 1pm. School finishes at 12.30pm that day so please make arrangements for your child from that time. You will need to book your meeting time through the Skool Loop app. We are not using this app anymore except for this booking feature as our new system, Hero, doesn’t have this feature yet. If you need any help with this, please contact Sam in the school office. (HIVE parents please check HERO notification regarding which teacher to book with.)

As of this morning, we currently have 14 students and no staff members with covid-19 isolating at home. If your child does test positive at any stage, please let the school know by filling in this form and/or letting the office know.

Keep well everyone.

Noho ora mai
