Exploring our Tūrangawaewae

Ellen von Collas —

Across the Year 3 classes, we have been exploring our Tūrangawaewae. This is a Māori concept which translates as A Place to Stand. By sharing items from home that show our connections to our whānau (family), our ancestors (tīpuna) and the geographical features of the country we connect to, we are able to develop a deeper confidence in ourselves and make connections with others.

We have had a wonderful array of items to share, including traditional clothing, favourite items of food, flags, shells, toy native birds or other animals.

We hope you enjoy exploring our photos. Can you identify our cultural heritage from some of the things we have shared?
