Principal's Report

Sue Cattell —

A huge congratulations to our Year 4/5 dance group for performing so well last weekend at the Bruce Mason Centre and the Town Hall, at the Last Night of the Proms with the Auckland Symphony Orchestra. They were amazing and were certainly a highlight. A massive thank you to Paula Snowball for the hours and hours she has put in preparing them to such a high standard. I was at the Town Hall show and was so proud of them. Such an awesome opportunity for them to be a part of something so big - they shared the stage with the ASO and amazing individual artists. These opportunities come about because of connections, so a big thank you to Eugenie Middleton who plays in the ASO and has given our school opportunities like this that we wouldn't otherwise have.

What a great collection of blankets, duvets, pyjamas and other warm items that were brought to school on Tuesday for Give a Kid a Blanket day. Thank you so much for your generosity and concern for others. Bernie, who collected the items on Wednesday, was amazed by the sheer amount that was there for him to collect. We are certainly a community with heart and when you hear the impact these items make when given to those in need, it is humbling. Thank you again to Grace Young for this community initiative.

Also on Tuesday, the Year 6 students were treated to a visit by some of our ex-students and the Deputy Principals from Takapuna Normal Intermediate School (TNIS). These students talked to our students about the great opportunities that await them (those who are going there) and allayed some of the natural anxiousness about what it will be like. We certainly are lucky to have this school as part of our Community of Learning pathway.

I hope you are all enjoying the new newsletter format. The counter keeps ticking on how many views it is getting, and you may be interested to know that the Week 7 newsletter was viewed 952 times, and last weeks was 1049.

You will have received your child’s mid-year report yesterday. The teachers spend many hours writing these reports and ensuring that they accurately reflect each student. If you have any questions about what is written, please talk with the classroom teacher directly.

Next week is the last week of term, with school finishing on Friday 5 July at the usual time of 3pm. To finish off the week, we have a whole school assembly led by the Year 3 team. At this assembly, the PTA will announce the winners of the Fruity Sacks sales, as well as draw 20 lucky dip prizes for students who sold one box or more.

Have a great weekend everyone.

Ngā mihi nui.
