Swimming Competitions

Michelle Clark —

Milford Swimmers have had a range of opportunities to shine over the last few weeks. We had our school swimming trials in the pool a few weeks ago and from those timed races we selected a team of swimmers to represent us at the following events. Pupuke Cluster Swimming was held at Takapuna Primary School on Thursday 1st April - each child took part in all races (25m Freestyle, Breaststroke and Backstroke) then there was the excitement of the relay race to finish the competition - which Milford School won with half a length to spare!

Zac, George and Josh who came 1st, 2nd and 3rd in most of the Year 4 boys events - They were super proud of themselves for doing so well.
"The relay was very exciting, George overtook the other teams and got the lead, then everyone else stretched the lead further!"

Our second swimming event was the North Shore Swimming Primary School Championships held at the Sir Owen G Glenn Pool at AUT Millennium on Tuesday 13th April. This was a much bigger competition with 25 schools in attendance. A day filled with noise, swimming, excitement and cheering, left all the children tired and proud of their efforts across a range of 25m, 50m and relay events. Milford came an impressive 5th in this competition. All children should feel that they achieved well in a competition where many of their competitors were club swimmers. Josh Gordon - It was very tiring to do the butterfly, I am proud that I did so well. It was fine that I didn't come first, I still enjoyed myself. George Smith - I did the 50m freestyle - it was super tiring, I did my very best and won the heat! Zac Williams - I was so nervous at Millennium, my race was up first. I wasn't sure when to start. I really enjoyed the day

Thank you to the many parents who gave up their time to assist with timing and marshalling at the event on Tuesday - it was full on and exhausting for us all!
