Principal’s Message

Sue Cattell —

Kia ora koutou katoa. In a previous newsletter, I mentioned how amazing our EPRO8 teams are and their achievements this year in competitions. Well the accolades don’t stop there. We have just heard that our Wonder Project entry has won the all of New Zealand title!!

The Wonder Project is an Engineering New Zealand’s programme for schools, designed to get young Kiwis excited about science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM). It is designed to spark wonder and awe in children and get them excited about a future STEM career. We don’t know what the prize is yet but are just thrilled to win. If you want to check out our video link, it is here. A huge thank you to our very own STEM teacher Nicole Brown who “launched” them into this project, and to James Brown, one of our Board members who was a Wonder Project Ambassador on this.

I do hope you have put the Festival of Song in your diary. It is on Friday 11 December here at school. Children come back to school at about 5pm dressed in their Christmas colours of red and green and sing our Christmas songs to you, their families. Feel free to bring a picnic and a blanket and enjoy the singing.

Each year we ask for families who would like to respond to a child at Tamaki School’s Christmas letter, getting the gifts they ask for. This year each child’s letter has already been allocated but they are looking to give the senior kids sports balls for a gift this year (instead of them writing a Santa letter). Deanne Rawle is coordinating this again and she says, “We did this a few years back and it was very well received. If at all possible, I was wondering if anyone would like to donate a ball as a gift? Any ball - netball, soccer, basketball, rugby, volleyball etc.” Please bring these to the office for Deanne to collect.

Have a lovely weekend everyone!
